Mark Valentine and the Price of Criminalizing Poverty

To get to the heart of what's wrong with America's financial bail system, we sent NLADA photojournalism fellow Michael Santiago to New York City, where he met with representatives of the New York Legal Aid Society's Decarceration Project. While there, he met Mark Valentine and learned just how easily the money bail system can devastate someone's life.
