Position:
As a full-time criminal defense attorney you’ll be working in a busy public defense firm that provides representation for court-appointed clients. The ideal start date would be between March 1 and March 15, 2024.
Qualifications:
-Member of the Oregon State Bar or eligible for membership
-Zealous and competent advocate for public defense clients
-Works well with others collaborating, coordinating, problem-solving
-Qualified under the Public Defense Services Commission representation standard to represent clients at least at the misdemeanor level
Responsibilities:
-Provide excellent legal representation to clients facing criminal charges at all trial-level stages of a case, from arraignment to post-sentencing
-Work closely with our team of investigators, social workers and case managers to provide the best possible representation to our clients
-Coordinate with your assistant for effective calendaring, client communication, and file organization
-Work closely with clients, providing and discussing information, strategies, and developments
Compensation:
Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance provided. Generous sick time, vacation time, and annual merit-based reviews with raises also provided. Position includes free access to an on-site gym. Salary starts at $77,100.93 and increases depending on experience. A Health Reimbursement Account (HRA) is provided. All employees receive 10 paid holidays a year, plus 2 floating holidays. MDI operates with a staff of 70 people, including attorneys, trial assistants, and investigators. MDI lawyers defend adults and juveniles in courts of Oregon in criminal, juvenile, contempt and appellate matters.
