East Bay Community Law Center (EBCLC) is a non-profit legal services organization, the community-based clinical program for U.C. Berkeley Law School, and one of the Bay Area’s largest and most effective systems disrupters. With a dual service and teaching mission, EBCLC is a racial justice organization committed to building a culturally diverse workplace, centered on equity. With about 80 staff, 150 law students a year, and a nearly $10 million annual budget, EBCLC is the largest provider of free legal services in Alameda County, providing multimodal, collaborative, and holistic legal services to over 5,000 clients annually and engaging in legislative and policy advocacy at the state and local level.

The Housing Intake/Program Coordinator is a member of a 3-person team that manages a high-volume crisis phone hotline for community members. This position requires trauma-informed de-escalation, crisis intervention, case assessment, and coordination of referrals to other providers during phone calls and in-person client encounters. This team member will work closely with attorneys to convey legal advice to tenants. The Intake/Program Coordinator also manages a wide variety of administrative projects. Primary Responsibilities:

· Receive, screen, and take appropriate client-centered action on a high volume of crisis hotline calls daily. Manage high volume hotline to ensure all calls are promptly triaged and returned.

· Clearly communicate with tenants in crisis over the phone, in person at our office, and in court to determine eligibility for services, assess legal issues, and provide or coordinate appropriate assistance.

· Receive and relay information from tenants to other staff in writing and over the phone.

· Provide administrative support to housing staff and law students with preparation, serving, and filing of legal pleadings (including preparation of exhibits and materials) in state court.

· Enter data into the client database to ensure accurate accounting of information and services disseminated as required for grant or project reporting.

· Meet with clients, provide general tenant counseling, and prepare paperwork under the supervision of attorneys.

· Assist in the coordination and facilitation of housing projects including, but not limited to, housing unit administrative support, rental assistance applications, courthouse clinic, social media campaigns and advocacy, law student clinical program, onboarding of new staff, and our tenants’ rights workshop.

· If a candidate is multi-lingual, then provide translation assistance and interpretation for client meetings and services, as needed.

· If a candidate is multi-lingual, they will be expected to perform everything in this posting in the non-English language.

· Additional tasks as assigned by the Supervisor.

Salary and Benefits

The starting hourly rate for this full-time non-exempt position is $33.52- $39.56 based on the number of years of prior relevant experience, as dictated by EBCLC’s salary scale.

Workplace Expectations

The Intake/Program Coordinator is expected to work at our Adeline office in Berkeley Monday-Friday from 9 am-5 pm (100% in person) to meet the needs of our Housing team and the community. Some work-from-home may occasionally be permitted depending on programmatic and client needs, as determined by the Deputy Director of Housing. All Housing staff are required to work at offsite locations and the Hayward Hall of Justice to support clinics and projects.

· Motivation and willingness to incorporate trainings into practice, learn-on-the job, and work independently to meet deadlines.
· Ability to work in close coordination and collaboration with a variety of staff to accomplish team objectives.
· Ability to give, receive, and incorporate feedback, actively engage in conflict resolution, and take ownership and accountability of work areas.
· Ability to work under pressure and with people in crisis, including people with mental disabilities, in an empathetic, client-centered, and professional manner.
· Ability to work effectively with a diverse range of groups, including people of color, people experiencing homelessness, people from different socioeconomic backgrounds, immigrants, non-English speakers, people with mental disabilities, people experiencing domestic violence, law students, service providers, government employees, community partners, elected officials, and law school faculty.
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Docs, or capacity to pick up new computer skills quickly.

Highly Preferred Qualifications

· Fluency in Spanish Mandarin or Cantonese, with demonstrated ability to interpret accurately between English and Spanish or Mandarin or Cantonese.

· Commitment to housing rights and/or advocacy for low-income, people of color.
