Responsibilities: The Receptionist answers the phone and greets visitors to the office; directs callers to the appropriate intake staff or attorney; gathers and verifies information to determine eligibility of people who call or visit the office seeking legal assistance; refers callers to appropriate agencies and resources; enters client information in our database; performs word processing and filing as well as other duties as needed. The volume of calls is very heavy, and callers are often very emotional. Accordingly, the Receptionist must be patient, compassionate, even-tempered, and have good people and problem–solving skills. This position requires working in person between the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Qualifications: Applicants should have at least two years of experience working with the public in an office environment; the ability to operate a multiline telephone; fluency in English; data entry experience and accuracy; strong computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace; excellent attention to detail; and the ability to type 45-50 wpm. Excellent oral and written communication skills including spelling, grammar, and style; good listening skills; the ability to work in a team and alone; adaptability; and appreciation of diversity are necessary for this position. Experience working with MiCollab and call center technology; knowledge of another language (Spanish, Amharic, Somali or Arabic); and an undergraduate degree are preferred but not required.

Salary and Benefits: The salary for 2 years of experience is $33,300. (The salary offered may increase or decrease depending on the actual, relevant experience of the selected candidate.) Salaries increase annually based on a salary scale. The program provides generous fringe benefits including 13 paid holidays, 6 weeks paid time off, 6 weeks parental leave; health, life, and long and short-term disability insurance; partial payment for dependent health insurance; a salary reduction option for a flexible spending account; educational loan reimbursement up to $600 per month (after a set off of other loan reimbursement amounts); and a voluntary tax-sheltered annuity with 3% match. Legal Aid offers a hybrid work schedule that allows staff to work 2 days remotely subject to management approval and a probationary employment period.
