VP Insurance Operations
What are you responsible for?
Managing the underwriting staff and the profitability of the program. I work with our reinsurer on underwriting guidelines, referral accounts, and updating rating and coverages offered within the program.
What do you enjoy most about your role and or working at NLADA Mutual?
Providing coverage to member-insureds who are involved in the civil legal aid community who are making a difference in their everyday work.
What motivates you?
Improving the customer experience, coaching underwriters, and learning more about the community.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
Outdoor concerts, international travel, and going to my vacation property in Florida.

I am originally from the Republic of Panama and lived in Florida for 14 years after my father retired from Air Force. I started my insurance career working at USAA. I left Tampa and settled in Arlington, VA where I have lived for over 30 years.

Opportunities to learn and grow. To be able to acquire new skills and knowledge to solve problems.

What are you responsible for?
Ensuring the integrity of NLADA Mutual insurance program and providing excellent customer service to our insureds.
What do you enjoy most about your role and or working at NLADA Mutual?
The mission of NLADA. Insuring equal justice is gratifying, and we really see the importance of the work our clients do on a daily basis.
What motivates you?
Each day I work motivates me to work harder for our member-insureds. Working for NLADA Mutual has been the most gratifying experience in my career; I have been here for more than 10 years! We have a great staff and a great mission where the results of our work are seen each day in the communities we serve.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
Fitness, golf, travel and creative writing.

I am originally from New York City and North Jersey. I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in European History from the College of Liberal Arts at Drew University and a Master’s Degree in Conflict Resolution from American University. I have lived in Washington, DC for almost twenty years and have worked at a variety of non-profit organizations.

We insure the heroes of the equal justice community. We provide peace of mind to our customers, knowing they have the coverages they need, while serving on the frontlines of advancing justice.
What motivates you?
Contributing to the NLADA Mutual mission and goals. Being helpful and dependable to our customers as well as the NLADA Mutual team.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I love to travel to experience new countries and cultures. I’ve been to 10 countries outside the US.
Anything else you want to share?
I’m originally from Philadelphia and a huge Philadelphia Eagles fan. I settled in the DMV (DC-Maryland-Virginia) area with my husband in 2018. We have 1 son.

NLADA Mutual’s Insurance + Equity + Justice Initiative
What do you enjoy most about your role and or working at NLADA Mutual?
Seeing the lights go off when insurance professionals and justice advocates see that insurance and justice really do go together. It’s exciting to move from our scoping stage where we learned so much from both communities about how the hidden hand of insurance can help advance justice goals, to establishing Working Groups to develop and implement collaborative strategies.
What motivates you?
Tikkun olam. (meaning service or literally “to repair the world” in Hebrew)
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
Working on my extracurricular justice project which educates and badgers friends, family, and anyone who will listen to kick the habit of single-use plastic.

What is your title?
Head of Marketing (Consultant)
What are you responsible for?
Ensuring clear communication of NLADA Mutual’s unique value and unwavering commitment to member-owners and the greater NLADA and equal justice community. I also support the growth of the business which in turn reinvests resources in NLADA’s work and the equal justice community directly.
What do you enjoy most about your role and or working at NLADA Mutual?
I get to be creative and learn about the intersection of insurance and justice.
What motivates you?
Knowing that equal justice professionals can go out and do their job knowing they have the best and most appropriate insurance coverage to support them in their daily work.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I enjoy being outdoors and physically active. I love camping, teaching yoga and listening to electronic dance music.
Anything else you want to share?
I have a son and a daughter who both practice karate –and yoga on occasion– with me! I am originally from Texas and am a tried and true Dallas Cowboys fan.
