ATTORNEY—Justice in Schools Pro Bono Project

Land of Lincoln Legal Aid seeks a motivated attorney to join us in working with our Justice in Schools Project in partnership with East St. Louis District 189 to serve students and their families with legal problems that impact their ability to thrive. This position is an opportunity to collaborate with District staff to address legal needs of District 189 families and identify ways to achieve equitable, long-term changes and improve the lives of East St. Louis residents.
Land of Lincoln Legal Aid provides free civil legal services to low-income individuals in 65 counties in Illinois. We are committed to working for justice for with those whose voices might otherwise not be heard; to empower individuals to advocate for themselves; and to make positive changes in the communities we serve. Our attorneys provide holistic legal advocacy in partnership with community organizations and social service agencies.
The Justice in Schools Pro Bono Project Attorney will:
• Recruit lawyers and law firms to provide pro bono legal services to District 189 families
• Provide and coordinate training for pro bono attorneys and other volunteers
• Work with District 189 staff and LOL staff to ensure seamless referrals to pro bono attorneys and provide appropriate support and oversight
• Supervise support staff and volunteers
• Actively participate in community outreach and education in District 189
• Track data and assist in reporting and administering applicable grants
• Develop and oversee the day-to-day operations of Pro Bono Project
• Provide legal representation
• Other duties as assigned

Compensation:
$75,000+ with license and depending on experience. Excellent insurance and retirement benefits. We are a 501(c) (3) non-profit and is an eligible employer for the public service loan forgiveness program.

Requirements: 

Qualifications:
• Licensed to practice law in Illinois or has requisite credentials for reciprocity
• Infectious enthusiasm for pro bono and legal aid
• Significant legal experience preferred
• Strong commitment to social and racial justice
• Demonstrated ability to build relationships and work with people of diverse social, economic, and racial/ethnic backgrounds
• Independent self-starter with attention to detail
• Excellent verbal, analytical, writing, and organization skills
• Highly motivated and demonstrated ability to work independently as well as part of a team

• Applicants must have reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and car insurance
