Position Description: 

Atlanta Legal Aid Society (“Legal Aid”) seeks a Paralegal for Georgia Senior Legal Aid (“GSLA” formerly known as the Georgia Senior Legal Hotline) located in its downtown Atlanta office. Our non-profit law firm represents low-income people in a variety of civil legal matters including family, housing, consumer, public benefits, education and health law. Georgia Senior Legal Aid provides legal advice, brief service, and referrals to Georgians age 60 and over. GSLA is currently comprised of a managing attorney, four staff attorneys, two paralegals, and numerous volunteers.

Responsibilities: The GSLA Paralegal gathers personal information and determines the eligibility of callers seeking legal assistance; verifies information accuracy; enters information in our database; provides information about our services; performs word processing, scanning and mailing tasks; ensures compliance with grant and funding requirements; and performs other administrative tasks as needed. In addition, the GSLA Paralegal guides callers to other organizations and resources to help meet their housing and other basic needs.

Requirements: 

Qualifications: Applicants must be fluent in English, have excellent oral and written communication skills including spelling, grammar and style; be proficient at data entry and word processing; be proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace; be organized, attentive to details and able to multi-task; be a team player and enjoy working with the public. The volume of calls is very heavy, and callers are often very emotional. Accordingly, the GSLA Paralegal must also be patient, compassionate, even-tempered, and have good people and problem–solving skills. Experience working with senior citizens and/or low-income populations is preferred. Proficiency in languages other than English is highly valued.
