Advocates for Basic Legal Equality, Inc. (ABLE), a non-profit law firm with a long history of representing people living on low incomes in Ohio in achieving equal justice and opportunity, seeks a Legal Training & Compliance Coordinator. This position can be based out of either ABLE’s Toledo or Dayton office.

ABLE and its partner law firm, Legal Aid of Western Ohio (LAWO), are the only law firms available for comprehensive legal representation in non-criminal matters for more than 425,000 people living, working, and raising their families in poverty in Northwest and West Central Ohio. ABLE advocates for – and with – financially disadvantaged individuals and communities to effectuate just and equitable policy changes that address the structural causes of poverty and to protect their right to fairness and justice in the legal system.
The Opportunity
The Legal Training & Compliance Coordinator will be responsible for project management support for ABLE practice groups including the coordination of training for advocacy staff and assisting with the firm’s compliance obligations consistent with the American Bar Association Standards for the Provision of Civil Legal Aid. The coordinator will perform duties under the direction of the Advocacy Director (AD).
Key Responsibilities
• Training: Assist with onboarding and training for advocacy staff, develop training plans, and ensure compliance with firm policies. Organize annual continuing legal education for advocates and support racial justice advocacy initiatives.
• Compliance: Ensure legal work and processes meet applicable standards. Oversee the integration of project activities with financial and programmatic requirements to ensure grant-funded project success. Monitor grant expenditures and make data-driven recommendations.
• Project Management: With the AD and managing attorneys, define project scope, goals, outcomes, and success metrics. Track performance and provide regular progress updates to the legal team. Evaluate ongoing projects and assist in optimizing resource allocation.

This position supports ABLE’s mission by equipping staff with essential tools and skills, ensuring project compliance, and enhancing advocacy outcomes through strategic planning and data analysis. The coordinator will collaborate across departments to help ABLE deliver high-quality legal assistance to low-income communities.
Qualifications
• Education & Experience: Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school and 2-3 years of legal practice.
• Skills: Strong organizational and communication skills, discretion in confidential situations, and experience with diverse, inclusive work environments.
• Preferred: Project management experience or certification and familiarity with project management software, LegalServer, and/or GIS mapping.
COMPENSATION, BENEFITS AND WORK LOCATION:
ABLE is committed to providing an equitable work environment, including a commitment to pay equity. The annual salary range for this position starts at $68,000. ABLE offers comprehensive fringe benefits, including health insurance, annual leave, sick leave, supplemental language compensation, loan repayment assistance, bar exam study stipend, and paid parental leave. This position can be based out of Toledo or Dayton, with hybrid work possible and occasional travel between ABLE’s office locations. ABLE attorneys are eligible for student loan repayment assistance up to $6,000 per year through the Ohio Access to Justice Foundation.
