The Winston-Salem office of Legal Aid of North Carolina (LANC) is seeking a full-time bilingual paralegal to support its legal advocacy on behalf of victims of domestic violence. LANC is a statewide, nonprofit law firm that provides free legal services in civil matters to low-income people. The Winston-Salem office serves residents of Alleghany, Ashe, Forsyth, Davie, Iredell, Stokes, Surry, Wilkes, and Yadkin counties.
A degree in paralegal studies or a paralegal certification, and a high school diploma are required. Prior work experience in the field of domestic violence is preferred. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, excellent organization skills, and a commitment to working with low-income and diverse populations are required. Must be fluent in writing and speaking Spanish. Must enjoy contact with the public.
The successful candidate will provide general outreach, intake and referral to appropriate community resources for clients accessing the Safe on Seven Center (“SOS”). SOS is the Forsyth County Domestic Violence Center, a multi-agency partnership providing services to victims of domestic violence in one centralized location. Duties will include staffing the Forsyth County Safe on Seven Center on a full-time basis and performing tasks according to SOS/LANC policies, including, but not limited to, processing paperwork for Chapter 50B Domestic Violence Protective Orders and Chapter 50C Civil No-Contact Orders, serving as a liaison between LANC and SOS partner agencies, including, but not limited to, the Forsyth County Clerk of Court and Family Services.
