The Bureau of Labor and Industries (BOLI) is dedicated to protecting the rights of workers and citizens to equal, non-discriminatory treatment through the enforcement of anti-discrimination laws that apply to workplaces, housing and public accommodations. We also encourage and enforce compliance with state laws relating to wages, hours, and terms and conditions of employment, educate and train employers to understand and comply with both wage and hour and civil rights law, and promote the development of a highly skilled, competitive workforce in Oregon through apprenticeship programs and through partnerships with government, labor, business, and education institutions.

This position is with the Civil Rights Division which enforces State statutes related to unlawful discrimination in employment, housing, public accommodation, and private vocational, professional, and trade schools. In addition, the Division enforces related Federal laws through work share agreements with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

This position is represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU).

Here’s what you will do:
As a Senior Civil Rights Investigator, you will investigate and bring to resolution complaints of discrimination related to employment, housing, public accommodation, and career schools.

Requirements: 

Minimum Qualifications:

Six months of experience as a Civil Rights Investigator;
OR

One year of experience as a Civil Rights Intake Officer;
OR

A Bachelor's degree and one year of specialized experience where the primary duties consisted of 1) collection of information, gathering and analysis of facts, and making conclusions and recommendations; or 2) gathering, developing, and presenting information for the purpose of educating or training;
OR

Four years of the specialized experience described above;
OR

A Law degree;
OR

Two years of full-time law school education; and six months of the specialized experience described above.
Examples of specialized experience are jobs such as: personnel or affirmative action technician/officer, interviewer, investigator, arbitrator, mediator, teacher, counselor, or claims examiner.

Ability to prioritize work and work in a high volume office setting
Tact and discretion, as subject matter frequently involves sensitive issues including but not limited to disability discrimination, race discrimination, and sexual harassment
Skill in working with persons of all ages and abilities, all racial, ethnic, religious, educational, and socio-economic backgrounds, and varying sexual orientation and gender identity
