The National Legal Aid & Defender Association (NLADA), founded in 1911, is America’s oldest and largest nonprofit association devoted to excellence in the delivery of legal services to those who cannot afford counsel. We provide advocacy, guidance, information, training, and technical assistance for members of the equal justice community, especially those working in public defense and civil legal aid. NLADA seeks a Grants Management Specialist to provide support in managing its grants with the Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs (OJP) and to serve as a resource for the indigent defense community to better access federal and non-federal funding to improve public defense systems.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Perform grant management tasks in support of all OJP grants to NLADA that seek to improve indigent defense systems (e.g., Smart Defense Initiative, CFDA Number 16.817).
• Create protocols for managing grants and tracking time and activities to meet specific project goals
• Oversee and complete all monitoring and reporting required by OJP
• Present information derived from the review, analysis and tracking of compliance with the terms and conditions of the grant as well as compliance with government-wide and agency regulatory, policy, and reporting requirements; risk assessments, financial reviews and audits and business reviews of grant operations
• Interpret and communicate to appropriate NLADA staff grant policies, Standard Operating Procedures and guidelines
• Develop a resource guide that helps defenders identify and track federal grant opportunities, as well as non-federal sources of support
• Develop web-based training on using the resource guide and seeking grant funding
• Offer one-on-one technical assistance to individuals who are applying for or have been awarded federal grants to improve indigent defense
• Liaise with federal agencies to promote and support inclusion of the public defense community into federal funding opportunities and other related matters

• Must possess a Certified Grants Management Specialist (CGMS) credential from the National Grants Management Association and/or Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM) certification
• Bachelor’s Degree required
• Excellent project management skills with experience in managing and supervising administrative projects
• Knowledge of the laws, regulations, rules, policies, procedures, and methods governing Federal grants, cooperative agreements and awards (e.g. familiar with the OJP Grants Management System (GMS), DOJ Grants Financial Guide, NTTAC reporting requirements, and OJP Conference Approval, Planning, and Reporting processes)
• Ability to apply analytical methods and techniques in the identification and resolution of grant and/or cooperative agreement administration issues
• Knowledge of financial methods, procedures, and practices used in grants and cooperative agreements
• Knowledge of analytical and evaluative methods and techniques
