Position Description: 

Crime Victims Legal Assistance Project (CVLAP) has an opening for a Staff
Attorney focused on domestic violence or elder abuse. CVLAP is a statewide program of
Michigan Advocacy Program with attorneys throughout Michigan in Alpena, Battle Creek,
Escanaba, Dearborn, Detroit, Gaylord, Grand Rapids, Jackson, Kalamazoo, Lansing,
Marquette, Monroe, Mt. Clemens, Muskegon, Pontiac, Saginaw, Southfield, Ypsilanti, and
Warren. The list of the locations of current openings can be found on the application form.

Michigan Advocacy Program (MAP) provides access to the justice system for those who need it
the most through its local legal services offices, Legal Services of South Central Michigan and
Farmworker Legal Services, as well several statewide advocacy programs housed at Michigan
Statewide Advocacy Services: Crime Victims Legal Assistance Project, Michigan Poverty Law
Program, Michigan Immigrant Rights Center, Michigan Elder Justice Initiative, and Michigan

MAP has partnered with Legal Services of Eastern Michigan, Legal Aid of Western Michigan,
Legal Services of South Central Michigan, Legal Services of Northern Michigan, and Lakeshore
Legal Aid to provide outreach and a wide range of legal representation and advocacy to victims
of crime, primarily domestic violence and elder abuse survivors, under the federal Victims of
Crime Act (VOCA).

Requirements: 

Applicants should be licensed to practice law in Michigan or be eligible to waive in or to take the
next Michigan bar examination. Applicants should demonstrate a commitment to underserved
populations' experience with issues impacting domestic violence or elder abuse survivors is
ideal. Salary starts at $46,000 for new attorneys; salary for experienced attorneys will depend
on experience. Includes excellent benefits.
