Pro Bono Director

Position Overview:

Florida Rural Legal Services (FRLS) is searching for a talented and professional Pro Bono Director to join our dynamic team. Pro Bono Director supports local and statewide efforts to expand pro bono participation in the state. The Pro Bono Director should be a dynamic and visionary leader who also participates in national pro bono discourse. The Director of Pro Bono must be a Florida licensed attorney and must demonstrate a strong commitment to the FRLS’s mission and values. This individual must be a strong leader and excellent communicator with the ability to engage and inspire staff, volunteers, and the various stakeholders of the Florida Bar Association and the larger Florida area legal community; the legal aid community; policymakers; the corporate and foundation community; the courts; and the public.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Collaborate with Florida’s legal aids; the Supreme Court, and the state and metro bar associations; expand the vision, create new connections and opportunities, and take pro bono partnerships and alliances to the next level in Florida.
Articulate a clear vision for the firm that supports and strengthens the critical role that pro bono attorneys, bar associations, law firms, and law schools play in delivering on the promise of equal justice for low income and underserved Floridians.
Design and execute strategic goals, objectives, strategies, and tactics to implement a statewide vision related to pro bono partnerships and alliances.
Cultivate and build essential relationships within stakeholder networks and serve as a bridge across networks.
Develop and monitor FRLS pro bono projects, including limited scope or full representation, participation in FRLS's legal clinics, and working with the Advocacy Director to develop co-counseling partnerships on individual cases and impact litigation.
Assist in the development and presentation of substantive law trainings to private bar attorneys.
Actively engage in trainings and meetings concerning pro bono and participate in pro bono working groups/committees.
Support pro bono relationships between private bar and FRLS attorneys in all thirteen counties.
Maintain a pro bono panel for case referrals and manage cases referred to pro bono attorneys.
Ensure pro bono data integrity in FRLS's case management system. Job title: Pro Bono Director Department: Support Reports to: Advocacy Directory
Recruit and coordinate placement of TRLS volunteers, law students and other professionals.
Work with Advocacy and Resource Development Director in seeking new funding sources and/or preparing grant applications with pro bono components
. Work with Advocacy Director, Accounting Director and Marketing Director in reporting pro bono activities and accomplishments to various funders

Other duties assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Juris Doctor required. Barred in the State of Florida required.
Minimum 8 years of experience, including demonstrated pro bono commitment and efforts.
Proven leadership skills including developing and implementing change-management strategies to support organizational goals.
Innovative thinker who strives for excellence and who is able to multi-task and manage projects from inception to completion.
Proven collaboration skills for high-profile initiatives involving multiple stakeholders across multiple organizations.
Strong organization, time management, verbal and written communications skills.
Excellent management and organizational skills, including experience managing people and projects.
A record of working effectively towards common goals with people and organizations representing diverse sets of interests.
Experience in teaching or training attorneys.
