Luise Stone is the Senior Program Associate on the Civil Legal Services Team at the National Legal Aid and Defenders Association (NLADA). Luise focused her career on public service and on advocating for sustainable long-term change, especially for those that are not given a voice. Starting her career in her home country, Germany, she graduated from Potsdam University with an LLB and worked in refugee resettlement and integration during the migratory influx in the EU between 2014 - 2016. She went on to join the office of a Member of Parliament of the German Government and focused on legislative, before immigrating to the United States in 2017. Here, she joined the Legal Aid Society of Middle TN and the Cumberlands on the family law team, and directly served immigrant and refugee survivors of gender-based violence, providing multi-disciplinary legal advocacy. While working fulltime, Luise continued her education at American University Washington College of Law and graduated with an LLM in Human Rights and Humanitarian Law in 2021. In May 2022, Luise started her role at NLADA where she provides technical assistance and training to legal services providers across the country and contributes to shaping policies for equal access to justice. She sits on several boards of national and community organizations related to gender-based violence and international diplomacy.
