Position Description: 

The Managing Attorney will have strong legal, organizational, systems-development, management, and partnership-building skills. The Managing Attorney will model Legal Aid’s values: Pursue racial justice and equity; treat everyone with respect, inclusion, and dignity; do high-quality work; prioritize our clients and communities; and work in solidarity.

Significant areas of responsibility include:

Representation & Advocacy: The Managing Attorney builds a team to ensure clients receive high quality and effective representation and advice. This includes mentoring colleagues, co-counselling, creating pathways for colleagues’ professional advancement, setting expectations, and securing support and training required for colleagues to engage in high quality work. The Managing Attorney develops, implements, and supervises significant litigation and advocacy efforts to address systemic legal issues.

Leadership: The Managing Attorney is the leader of the Housing Group and a leader within Legal Aid. This includes setting goals for the Housing Group and participating in goal setting and implementation of organizational goals, including Legal Aid’s Strategic Plan. They are an active member of Legal Aid’s Management Team.

Community Work: The Managing Attorney will lead the group’s engagement in the community, including mentoring colleagues in their community work. This includes community education and outreach, partnership building, educating legislators and others about housing solutions, and permissible legislative and administrative advocacy.

Requirements: 

The Successful Candidates will:
• Exhibit a strong commitment to Legal Aid’s mission, vision, and values.
• Hold a JD and be licensed to practice law in Ohio or eligible to waive in.
• Have excellent management and leadership skills.
• Have a strong vision for how Legal Aid can address the housing needs of people with low income.
• Have experience in providing legal services for people with low income.
• Have deep knowledge of state and federal law related to Legal Aid’s clients.
• Exhibit outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
• Have excellent research, writing, and advocacy skills.
• Exhibit excellent team- and partnership-building skills.
• Have excellent technology skills, including MS Office, databases, and document assembly.
• Embrace diversity, equity, and inclusion.
• Spanish language skills preferred.

Compensation & Benefits: The salary range for Managing Attorney is $107,000 to $161,000 DOE, with the top third of the pay range reserved for those with deep skill sets, long tenure, and consistent exceptional performance.
