Legal Services of Northern Virginia is a large, high-volume legal aid organization in Virginia, with 45+ attorneys working out of 7 offices. We help thousands of disadvantaged clients each year in civil legal matters, while cultivating relationships with community service organizations, pro bono attorneys, local bar associations, and other stakeholders to serve the region’s low-income and neediest populations.

Job Summary: Under a grant funded by the Ryan White Program, this full-time attorney position provides advice and representation to persons living with HIV/AIDS in Virginia, of every sexual orientation and gender, on all civil legal issues that fall under all areas of practice within LSNV priorities. This position can be based in any of our offices.
Essential Functions:
• Conducts client interviews to address any legal issues and determine level of services to be provided
• Travels to various LSNV offices, community partner agencies, and outreach events to meet with clients.
• Develops and maintains relationships with other community-based organizations that assist individuals living with HIV/AIDS.
• Presents educational presentations to Ryan White agencies, other community-based organizations, medical and housing case workers, and/or consumers regarding the program and services that are provided to those living
with HIV/AIDS.
• Creates brochures, flyers, and other materials to distribute and inform consumers of the program and services.
• Ensures that the program and LSNV services are in compliance with all grant rules and regulations with special attention given to HIPAA requirements
• Leads grantor reporting process on behalf of LSNV
Qualifications:
• Must be licensed with the Virginia State Bar, or have two years of practice in another state (LAC Rule 1A:9)
• Demonstrated interest in working with clients of every sexual orientation and gender, living with HIV/AIDS, required
• Demonstrated commitment to social justice, racial justice, and/or public interest work, preferred
• Proven experience in community engagement and advocacy
• Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
• Availability for flexible work schedule, commitment to evenings and weekends, preferred
• Strong litigation experience, preferred
• Legal aid experience, strongly preferred
• Multi-lingual (verbal and written), preferred
Travel: Very limited statewide travel, may be required
