Position Description: 

Legal Services of Northern Virginia (LSNV) is a large, high-volume legal aid organization in Virginia, with 45+ attorneys spanning 7 offices. We help thousands of clients each year in civil legal matters, while cultivating relationships with community service organizations, local law firms, pro bono attorneys, and local bar associations, and other stakeholders to serve the region’s low-income and neediest populations.

Legal Services of Northern Virginia (LNSV) is currently seeking a full-time Healthcare/Elder Law Staff Attorney to join our dedicated team.

This full-time attorney position focuses on public benefits and health-related matters, to further LSNV’s steps to improve access to healthcare for low-income adults, as well as a variety of legal assistance to older adults. The attorney will assist families and individuals who have been denied, terminated from, or had reduced benefits from programs such as Medicaid and food stamps (or SNAP).

This is a hybrid position which is based in our Prince William office, with occasional evening and weekend commitments outside of regular business hours.

Essential Functions:
Maintains a full and diverse caseload.
Maintains general knowledge of substantive area of law.
Assists in developing and participating in legal outreach and community legal education projects and programs.
Works with community agency partners.
Completes legal research and writing, drafts administrative and court documents, and represents clients in administrative hearings and litigation.
Assists in developing and participating in legal outreach and community legal education projects and programs which includes bi-monthly presentations on subjects such as wills, elder fraud, and guardianships/competency at each of the two Senior Centers in Prince William County.
○ Creates, revises, and mails outreach literature.
Responsible for grant reporting initiatives for Title III funding and the Potomac Health Foundation.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Substantive Functions:
Maintains a strong professional relationship with the Enroll Virginia! program and its Program Manager.
Develops expertise by participating in LSNV Task Force meetings.
Participates in state task force meetings, as appropriate.
Assists clients with Medicaid and Medicare denials and provides guidance to LSNV healthcare navigators/paralegals regarding health coverage questions in Prince William and nearby jurisdictions, as applicable.
Works on other elder law matters.

Travel: Local travel may be required.

Requirements: 

Must be licensed with the Virginia State Bar, or have two years of practice in another state (LAC Rule 1A:9).
Commitment to social justice, racial justice, and public interest work, required.
Experience in community engagement and advocacy, strongly preferred.
Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
Interest in litigation, preferred.
Legal aid experience, strongly preferred.
Multi-lingual (verbal and written), preferred.

Salary range: 
The salary ranges from $65,000 to $95,000 based on years of experience and the legal aid pay scale.
