Position Description: 

Legal Services of Northern Virginia (LSNV) is a large, high-volume legal aid organization in Virginia, with 45+ attorneys spanning 7 offices. We help thousands of clients each year in civil legal matters, while cultivating relationships with community service organizations, local law firms, pro bono attorneys, and local bar associations, and other stakeholders to serve the region’s low-income and neediest populations.

Legal Services of Northern Virginia (LNSV) is currently seeking a full-time Deputy Director for Program Services to join our dedicated team.

This is a full-time leadership role that assists the Executive Director in ensuring that LSNV’s client service delivery process runs as efficiently and effectively as possible for the region’s low-income, elderly, and disabled individuals and families.

This is a hybrid position which can be based at any of our office locations in Virginia.

Essential Functions:

In coordination with the Executive Director and the Deputy Director for Advocacy, provides day-to-day management, long-term strategic guidance, and priority setting for the organization.
Directly supervises the managing attorneys of LSNV’s branch offices, the Managing Attorney of Intake, and the Managing Attorney of the Advice Counsel and Transfer Line. Reports directly to the Executive Director.
Works with supervisees to ensure that the policies, procedures, and organizational goals set forth in the LSNV Legal Work Management Guidelines manual are fully implemented, and reviews the guidelines on an ongoing basis to make sure that it is updated whenever appropriate.
Implements the organizational vision by overseeing the client-service delivery process while considering the dynamics of poverty, equity, and client’s historical trauma when developing processes and procedures regarding client interaction.
Provides advice to staff on ethical issues, including conflicts of interest.
Promotes LSNV and its mission by being an active presence in the community, including working with various committees and networks that address issues facing LSNV’s clients.
Assists the Executive Director in ensuring that LSNV fully complies with the regulatory requirements of the Legal Services Corporation and other funders and entities that have any oversight role with respect to LSNV.
Assists the Executive Director and the Information Technology Manager in strategizing and implementing creative uses of technology to enable LSNV to serve its clients more efficiently and effectively.
Oversees the training and mentoring of staff on external regulations and internal policies and procedures.
Oversees the program’s purchase and maintenance of library materials.
Assists the Executive Director in investigating and resolving client complaints and grievances.
Maintains a small case load.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements: 

Juris Doctorate degree and licensed to practice law. Must be a member of the Virginia State Bar or eligible for admission under the Legal Aid Counsel Rule (LAC Rule 1A:9).
At least five (5) years of post-Juris Doctorate, and three (3) years of legal aid experience.
High level of management/supervisory experience.
Excellent writing, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Ability to make timely and effective decisions and produce results through strategic planning and the implementation and evaluation of programs and policies.
Ability to explain, advocate, and express facts and ideas in a convincing manner, and negotiate with individuals and groups internally and externally.
Experience working on issues of racial justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion, with a willingness to play a central role in LSNV’s efforts on these issues moving forward.

Salary range: 
The salary ranges from $105,000 to $117,500 based on experience and qualifications.
