Position Description: 

Northern Nevada Legal Aid (NNLA), formerly known as Washoe Legal Services, is seeking a Legal Assistant for our Senior Legal Center. This position has a high volume of activity and requires excellent interpersonal skills to interact with the public. Duties and Responsibilities
• Screen clients to determine legal issues and determine whether clients qualify for legal assistance.
• Receive clients and guests.
• Enter client’s information (Intake) into server.
• Set up appointments for attorneys.
• Clerical work such as emailing, faxing, mailing, scanning.
• File legal documents in court and set up court-hearing dates.
• Translation of documents, closing letters, phone calls and in client meetings.
• Witness the signing of legal documents and provide certified acknowledgment of signature’s authenticity (notary).
• Monthly ADSD grant reporting (maintain data on Refer & Rejects).
• Coordinate outreach efforts of the office; may perform outreach for the office as assigned (maintain data on how many outreaches we have attended for ADSD grant).
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements: 

• Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred but not required,
• Notary Public preferred but not required,
• Meets expectations on attendance and punctuality,
• Ability to understand the lives and struggles confronting low-income and vulnerable people in our community,
• An empathetic communicator with a positive attitude,

Salary/Benefits:
Position is a full-time position, with an hourly range of $22-$24, to be determined based upon experience and qualifications.

NNLA promotes a positive work-life balance by offering 11 paid holidays per year (not including half days for Thanksgiving and New Year's) and a generous Personal Time Off (PTO) program that starts accruing immediately at the rate of 7.0 hours per pay period (increase in PTO accrual after 2 years).

NNLA offers a competitive benefits package, which pays 100% of the employee Medical, Dental, Vision and Life plans, along with paying 75% of dependents benefit premium. In addition, NNLA has a 401(k)-matching program.
