Position Description: 

The Center for Climate Integrity (CCI) seeks a Plastics Accountability Associate/Attorney to support the organization’s mission to hold fossil fuel and petrochemical companies accountable for their long-standing deception (particularly on the recyclability of plastics) and the resulting harms.

The ideal candidate for this position will have 2-5 years of experience as a campaigner or lawyer working on environmental, plastics and/or corporate accountability issues, excellent legal research and analysis skills, and the ability to build relationships and collaborate across disciplines. Reporting directly to a CCI Managing Attorney, the Plastics Accountability Associate/Attorney will provide strategic, legal and outreach support on a range of issues relevant to plastics accountability and related campaigns. This position will also build and maintain relationships within the legal community and with other key stakeholders, educating them on the plastics industry’s past and present acts of fraud and deception.

The Center for Climate Integrity is an all-remote organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement an outreach strategy to educate members of the legal community, state and local elected officials, community leaders, and advocacy groups on the plastics industry’s deceptive conduct regarding plastic recycling
  • Develop legal and advocacy tools and resources needed to effectively hold petrochemical companies accountable
  • Assist in the development of programs and events that educate lawyers, elected officials, and the general public about plastics accountability
  • Build and maintain relationships with relevant partner organizations, coalitions, communities, and other interested stakeholders
  • Monitor and analyze ongoing plastics litigation and the broader corporate accountability landscape in the U.S.
  • Conduct independent legal and policy research, as needed
Requirements: 
  • 2-5 years working on environmental, plastics, and/or corporate accountability advocacy campaigns as a lawyer is preferred
  • B.A. or B.S. in related field is required, J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited law school is preferred
  • Familiarity with state and local government decision-making, public affairs and/or issue advocacy
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills as well as public speaking skills
  • Experience working independently and with a diverse range of people and groups
  • Excellent writing and presentation skills for a variety of audiences, including lawyers, elected officials, and the general public
  • Ability to conduct independent legal and policy research
  • A flexible approach to work with a willingness to travel, as needed

Technology Requirements
CCI is an all-remote organization, and candidates will need to arrange for some of their own infrastructure and tools. A laptop computer and cell phone will be provided, but the selected candidate will be required to have access to a workspace and a reliable internet connection.

Compensation and Benefits
CCI salaries are based on the organization’s job classification system. The classification system consists of salary ranges which are updated annually based on market data. Conditions of Employment

Salary range: 
USD 81,425 - USD 94,996
