Colorado Legal Services (CLS) is Colorado’s statewide nonprofit legal aid program, with 180 employees and thirteen offices providing civil legal assistance to low-income Coloradans throughout the state. CLS provides free legal assistance in a broad variety of legal areas, including family law, public benefits, eviction defense, consumer protection, services to survivors of serious crime and human trafficking, and many others.

Position Summary:
The CLS leadership team is seeking an Accounting & Grant Assistant to help with financial and program data reporting for federal, state, county, and foundation grants that CLS relies on to provide valuable legal services. At CLS, we have over 75 grants and our Accounting and Grants team ensures that we have strong practices and processes in place related to the application, implementation, monitoring, and reporting for each grant. This individual will work closely with the CLS Finance Director and Grants Manager to ensure our processes are organized and efficient, that our grant files are well managed, and that reports are completed on a timely basis. Our ideal candidate will understand that our quantitative data must be accurate and will be energized by getting the details right. We are also looking for someone who wants to help cultivate a positive and welcoming work environment and who takes a service-oriented, responsive, and human approach to their work.This position will report directly to the Grants Manager and will work on accounting tasks as delegated by the Director of Finance.
Essential Duties:
Help develop and implement efficient grant processes for quantitative program and accounting reporting.
Communicate with CLS staff about grant requirements and compliance issues.
Use Microsoft Planner to maintain accurate and up-to-date information on grant reports, files, and documentation to ensure timely compliance with reporting.
Assist with updating and running monthly net asset report to ensure grant expenditures are compliant with the grant schedule and timeline. This report will be updated in coordination with the Director of Finance.
Provides timely updates and reminders to CLS staff about Grant processes and changes.
Assist with grant writing and compilation of information for grant applications.
Be a point of contact for Grant resources and procedures for employees.
Support the Grant Manager in all functions and assist with general office administration duties.
Qualifications and Competencies
We are looking for someone with a positive attitude who is excited to learn CLS organizational culture and who will help manage CLS grants. Candidates should have prior administrative job experience in the area of accounting or grant management. Candidates should also demonstrate in their resume and cover letter that they have the skills to: 1) communicate effectively with management, teammates, and employees; 2) pay close attention to the details; 3) be empathetic and sensitive to others; 4) understand the value of quantitative data; 5) be organized, prioritize work, and meet deadlines; and 6) use technology effectively and efficiently. Experience with Planner or other project management software is a plus but is not required. However, proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite products, particularly Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams, and SharePoint is critical to the position. Interest in law, legal aid, public service, and/or experience in the legal profession is also a plus. Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree, however if a candidate does not have a bachelor's degree, they must have a GED or high school degree AND at least 4 years of executive or high-level assistant experience.
