About Us:
Northern Nevada Legal Aid (NNLA), formerly known as Washoe Legal Services, is a distinguished 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established in 1965. We are committed to providing access to justice for Northern Nevada’s most vulnerable populations, advocating for their rights, safety, and family stability. NNLA plays a vital role in supporting domestic violence victims, abused and neglected children, the indigent, the elderly, and immigrants facing crime and violence. In 2021, NNLA assisted in over 8,820 legal matters, including immigration cases for victims of crime and other humanitarian benefits. Our Immigration Unit is recognized under the Department of Justice’s Recognition and Accreditation Program.
Location:
The role is primarily on-site at NNLA’s main office located at 299 S. Arlington Ave, situated between Reno’s vibrant Downtown and Midtown neighborhoods. While the position primarily involves on-site work, a hybrid or telework schedule may be considered based on organizational needs.

NNLA is seeking a dedicated and experienced full-time Immigration Staff Attorney/OLAP Accredited Representative to join our Immigration Unit. This role involves representing clients in immigration legal proceedings, including affirmative matters before U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and defensive matters before the Executive Office for Immigration Review’s Immigration Courts. The position may handle a range of case types, such as:
• Family-Based Immigration (I-130, Adjustment of Status, Consular Processing)
• Victims of Crime Benefits (U-Visa, T-Visa, VAWA, SIJS)
• Humanitarian Benefits (DACA, TPS, Refugee Adjustment, Affirmative Asylum)
• Citizenship (Naturalization, N-600)
• Removal Defense (Defensive Asylum, UAC/SIJS, Cancellation of Removal)
• Other ancillary applications/benefits
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Assist clients with completing and filing immigration relief applications before USCIS and/or EOIR.
• Represent clients in affirmative interviews at the USCIS Field Office in Reno, NV, USCIS Asylum Office in San Francisco, CA, and in defensive hearings at the Reno Docket of the Las Vegas Immigration Court.
• Manage client and grant-reporting data, ensuring regular updates and reviews.
• Make referrals both internally within NNLA and to external community partners.
• Engage in occasional outreach, community education, and regional events.
• Perform additional administrative tasks as needed.
Qualifications:
• Admitted and in good standing with any bar of the 50 states, DC, or Puerto Rico, or a recent law school graduate, or currently Fully/Partially Accredited OLAP Representative eligible to apply for accreditation with NNLA upon employment.
• Bilingual in English/Spanish (preferred).
• Prior experience in immigration law and casework.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively with diverse populations, including different cultures, socio-economic statuses, seniors, and vulnerable individuals.
• Outstanding organizational and problem-solving abilities.
• Proficient in computer/database use with keen attention to detail.
• Capable of taking initiative and working both independently and as part of a team.
• Strong commitment to social justice, particularly in legal aid and immigrant rights.
• Additional language skills and experience with low-income individuals, trauma victims, and case management software are desirable but not required.
