Legal Services of Northern Virginia (LSNV) is a large, high-volume legal aid organization in Virginia, with 45+ attorneys spanning 7 offices. We help thousands of clients each year in civil legal matters, while cultivating relationships with community service organizations, local law firms, pro bono attorneys, and local bar associations, and other stakeholders to serve the region’s low-income and neediest populations.

Legal Services of Northern Virginia (LNSV) is currently seeking a full-time Managing Attorney for Intake to join our dedicated team.

This is a full-time leadership role that is responsible for developing and implementing uniform and concise client-friendly protocols, policies, and guidelines to assess applicant eligibility and ensure prompt and courteous public access to legal services.

The position can be hybrid, consistent with LSNV’s organizational policy, and can be based at any of our office locations in Virginia.

Essential Functions:

Directly supervises all intake paralegals, senior intake paralegals, and office managers.
Trains and motivates program staff to provide high quality intake in accordance with Legal Services Corporation and program guidelines.
Cultivates a mission-driven team atmosphere by overseeing workflow and workload management of intake staff.
Manages program intake systems such as eligibility screening per federal, state and local grant guidelines, and client scheduling according to LSNV’s priorities and staffing.
Oversees program-wide conflict ethical compliance.
Manages the centralized intake system and develops, maintains and ensures consistent, high quality and uniform implementation of intake services.
Responsible for program response to calls, letters and online applications for services from the general public.
Manages all aspects of case opening and closure at the intake level, associated statistics and reporting requirements.
Responsible for training of LSNV staff on matters relating to conflicts of interest and the intake process.
Conducts regular quality review of intakes and the intake process.
Coordinates with other LSNV managers to provide programmatic guidance.
First line of response for applicant/client complaints or concerns over level and quality of intake service.
Coordinates with the program’s Technology Systems Manager to enhance access to legal services through LSNV’s phone system, case management system, online intake applications and general program informational materials on the website.
Handles a small caseload commensurate with experience and management responsibilities.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Travel: Less than 10%.

Requirements: 

Juris Doctorate degree and be duly licensed and authorized to practice as an attorney under Virginia law, required.
At least four (4) years of post-Juris Doctorate, or two (2) years of legal aid experience, strongly preferred.
Active member of the bar (any jurisdiction) in good standing.
Management/supervisory experience, strongly preferred.
Experience providing legal advice and policy guidance.
Ability to develop and implement an organizational vision.
Excellent organization, written and oral communication skills, required.
Ability to maintain positive relations with a diverse employee and client population.
Ability to create, implement, and maintain workflows and systems.
Excellent time management skills and the ability to balance multiple time-sensitive tasks.

Salary range: 
The salary ranges from $75,000 to $103,000 based on years of experience and the legal aid pay scale, plus a management stipend.
