Legal Services of Northern Virginia (LSNV) is a large, high-volume legal aid organization in Virginia, with 45+ attorneys spanning 7 offices. We help thousands of clients each year in civil legal matters, while cultivating relationships with community service organizations, local law firms, pro bono attorneys, and local bar associations, and other stakeholders to serve the region’s low-income and neediest populations.

Legal Services of Northern Virginia (LNSV) is currently seeking a full-time Pro Bono Managing Attorney to join our dedicated team.

This is a full-time leadership role responsible for developing, implementing, and managing a robust program of client-centered, pro bono opportunities that appeal to a broad range of volunteers.

This is a hybrid position which can be based at any of our office locations in Virginia.

Essential Functions:

(1) Oversight/Management
(1a) Private Bar Involvement Program
Develops, implements, and drafts program policies and procedures.
Sets, prioritizes, and implements program goals.
Reviews program policies, procedures and goals on a yearly basis.

(1b) Local Bar Initiatives and Collaborative Efforts
Initiates new collaborative efforts in all of LSNV’s jurisdictions.
Serves as liaison with local bars co-sponsoring pro bono projects.
Attends local bar meetings and/or local pro bono committee meetings.

(1c) Special Project Initiatives
Initiates new special projects with law firms and corporate legal departments.
Monitors and maintains newly initiated projects.

(1d) Volunteer Recruitment and Retention
Plans and implements recruitment efforts involving individual attorneys, law firms, and corporate legal departments.
Plans training events for pro bono activities in each of the program’s service areas.
Plans annual recognition reception in conjunction with all local bar associations.

(1e) Data Collection
Maintains database for clients, attorneys and hotline.

(1f) Public Relations
Interfaces with attorneys and other potential volunteers on local, state, and national levels.

(2) Supervision
Oversees the LSNV Pro Bono Team (including staff attorneys and paralegals), in-house volunteers, and LSNV attorneys acting in pro bono mentor capabilities.

(3) Miscellaneous
Drafts Pro Bono Initiative Report on an annual basis.
Ensures efficient referral of cases to pro bono attorneys.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Travel: Some travel may be required.

Requirements: 

Juris Doctorate degree and active membership in the Virginia State Bar with at least three (3) years of post-Juris Doctorate, or two (2) years of legal aid experience.
Prior management/supervisory experience.
Experience in establishing and maintaining relationships in the community.
Excellent writing, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Ability to make timely and effective decisions, and to produce results through strategic planning, implementation, and evaluation of programs and policies.

Salary range: 
The salary ranges from $77,000 to $103,000 based on years of experience and the legal aid pay scale, plus a management stipend.
