GBLS seeks an attorney for a long-term, temporary position in the Employment Law Unit for six months starting January 2025.
The attorney will practice in a range of workers’ rights issue areas, potentially with some overlap with immigration law matters. The attorney’s work and caseload will depend on the needs and priorities of individual clients and community-based partners, with a focus on racial and immigrant justice. The areas of work also may be adapted to the prior experience and interests of the selected candidate selected. Potential areas of work include:
• Unemployment benefits
• Wage theft
• Workplace-related immigration rights (Deferred Action for Labor Enforcement; U and T visas for survivors of workplace-related crimes)
• Access to sick leave and paid family and medical leave
• Injured workers’ rights
Salary is based on a union scale with current annual salary ranging from $74,000 for an attorney with 0 year of experience and up to $96,500 for 15 years of experience. GBLS offers a generous benefits package and a student loan repayment assistance plan for eligible attorneys.

Qualifications: The attorney must (1) be admitted to the Massachusetts Bar or admitted elsewhere and able to practice in Massachusetts under SJC Rule 3.04; (3) have a commitment to community lawyering and advancing workers’ rights; and (4) have excellent oral and written communication skills. Fluency in one or more languages spoken by GBLS clients and experience with litigation, administrative hearings and/or immigration law are helpful but not required. The position may involve attending evening or weekend meetings to accommodate workers’ schedules.
