Georgia Legal Services Program’s (“GLSP”) mission is to provide civil legal services for Georgians with low incomes, creating equal access to justice and opportunities out of poverty. GLSP seeks a domestic violence staff attorney with at least three (3) years of legal experience to work in Piedmont, Albany and Valdosta ( housed in Albany Regional Office. )
Primary Responsibilities:
Litigate cases in administrative, state and federal forums, with a focus on domestic violence survivors;
Case work will focus on domestic violence cases, but also encompass kinship cases, elder law cases and other legal issues affecting domestic violence survivors;
Draft briefs, motions, and memoranda;
Conduct community legal education sessions and engage in outreach activities; and
Participate on action teams that explore and solve systemic issues affecting clients.
Requirements:
Graduate of accredited law school;
Admission to the Georgia Bar, or willingness to sit for the next exam;
Reliable vehicle and driver’s license; and
Ability to speak Spanish is a plus.
Demonstrated interest or experience working with clients on poverty law issues and commitment to racial and social justice;
Willingness and ability to work as part of a team in a professional and collaborative manner;
Computer literacy, which includes familiarity using email, Microsoft Office, LegalServer, and other computer programs;
Ability to work with diverse populations, backgrounds and perspectives;
Excellent oral advocacy, research, and writing skills; and
Attention to detail and self-motivated.
The salary range for Georgia-barred attorneys is $58,250-$77,200.
Salaries increase annually based on a salary scale. In addition, attorneys who pass GLSP’s Spanish proficiency test receive additional compensation. GLSP offers excellent fringe benefits including generous health and life insurance benefits; 13 paid holidays, 3 weeks of annual leave, and 3 weeks of sick leave; educational loan reimbursement up to $600 per month (after $65 deductible and other requirements met); CLE expenses; and Georgia Bar dues.
