The New York State Office of Indigent Legal Services (ILS) seeks to hire a Litigation Resource Attorney for the Statewide Appellate Support Center at ILS in Albany, New York. The Center helps fulfill the agency’s statutory mission to improve the quality of representation offered by attorneys providing mandated criminal and Family Court defense statewide. The Litigation Resource Attorney will help develop statewide initiatives and provide individual consultation services to improve mandated representation with an emphasis on helping trial-level providers preserve issues for appellate review. The Litigation Resource Attorney will also work collaboratively with other units within ILS to ensure the broadest impact of new initiatives.
Candidates must have been admitted to the New York State Bar and must have had two years of experience in the practice of law subsequent to admission to the Bar.
Preferred Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have 5 or more years’ experience in criminal defense trial level practice with significant appellate experience; a commitment to improving mandated representation statewide; and a collegial and collaborative approach to team projects. Experience in representation in Family Court matters is also desirable.
