Atlanta Legal Aid Society (“Legal Aid”) seeks a Pro Bono Coordinating Attorney (Estate Planning) to oversee and expand our estate planning pro bono program. The position will also support one of our neighborhood offices (Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Gwinnett) and/or our remote centralized intake unit. Our non-profit law firm represents low-income people in a variety of civil legal matters, including family, housing, consumer, public benefits, education, and health law. The Pro Bono team is firm-wide, engaging volunteers throughout our five-county service area to serve our clients through a wide variety of projects, clinics, and case referrals.
Responsibilities:
Overseeing the vision and delivery of legal services by the pro bono estate planning program, ensuring that staff and volunteers are providing excellent legal services
Managing a range of service delivery models, such as clinics (virtual and in person) and direct case referrals to volunteers, and monitoring case files and compliance
Recruiting, training, and providing support to volunteer attorneys, law students, and other legal professionals
Actively participating in local, affinity, and bar associations and other professional associations to network with and recruit volunteers
Presenting to law firms, corporate law departments, and bar and professional associations regarding our organization, the client communities we serve, their legal needs, and available pro bono opportunities
Overseeing a caseload of pro bono legal work with occasional direct representation
In collaboration with the pro bono team and Legal Aid staff, identifying and expanding pro bono offerings in estate planning and related areas
Managing smaller pro bono projects as needed
Occasional travel within our five-county service area (Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Fulton, and Gwinnett)
Supervising one or more paralegals and support staff
Providing support for grant applications and reports, as needed, including preparing volunteer highlights
Other tasks as assigned
Qualifications:
Active member in good standing in the State Bar of Georgia with at least 3 years of experience as a practicing attorney
Experience in estate planning
Strong work ethic and adaptability
Excellent legal writing and oral advocacy skills
Excellent interpersonal, communication, listening, and organizational skills
Ability to balance compassion and pragmatism
Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a collaborative, hybrid team model, with an appreciation for diversity
Eagerness to learn and openness to feedback
Demonstrated commitment to public service, participation in law school clinics or trial advocacy courses, familiarity with poverty law, and previous work with low-income people are strongly preferred
Salary and Benefits:
The salary is $63,750 for an attorney with 3 years of experience and may be higher depending on relevant legal experience. Salaries are reviewed and adjusted annually, depending on funding.
